Note
Security, border, and airline rules change. This page is not a legal or regulatory substitute. Liquid rules (e.g. ~100 ml containers) are common in many regions but not universal.
Before you leave home & check-in
- Documents ready. Passport or ID as required, boarding pass in app or print, visas if needed. Check validity early.
- Online check-in. Saves desk time; align your bags with the airline—see our baggage limits table and long-haul packing list.
- Getting to the terminal. Parking and airport transfers add cost—estimate them in the trip cost calculator.
Carry-on & security screening
- Cabin size & weight. Carriers differ—our reference table & weight tool is indicative only.
- Liquids & electronics. Prepare a clear bag where required; laptops and large devices often go in separate trays. Follow airport signage.
- Chargers. Check plugs & voltage for your destination—airports may have USB or universal outlets, but don’t rely on them.
Gate, connections, and how you feel
- Monitor departures. Gates change; for tight connections, know the arrival terminal and walking distance in advance.
- Jet lag & time zones. For big time shifts, use the time-zone planner & jet lag tips.
- Hydration & movement. Refill water after security when allowed; a short walk before boarding helps circulation.
